The Stages of my Final Piece

So i started with a A4 piece of paper, i then cur it down to the dimensions 158mm x 297mm so it will a thin strip of paper. I then proceeded to fold it into 12 equal sections length ways. I next folded it vertical into 6 sections. This left me with 72 equally sized rectangular folded shapes. These folds are all mountain folds.

In each of the little rectangles i folded a mountain fold diagonally across from side to side.

I repeated this process along every rectangle, altering the direction  of the crease each time, so i got an up and down form going.

After doing all the creases, i started to fold up the paper. I did this by folding each of 12 lines in on each other using the diagonal line i made in each sector as crease.  This create a circular motion in the folding.

So when almost all of the folds had been done, i got this circle form pattern.

So with all the folds complete i was left with this form. With the picture on the left, under the main circle, is the other part of the pleated sections hidden by the rest of the folds. This needed to be brought to the surface (Right Pic) so i could form a full circular shape.

This should be the result, all it needs now is a little tweaking by flattening it and twisting the paper into the correction position to get a nice neat circle.

By flattening the images you form the twist marks in the paper, which give the whole model its interesting spiral form.

So this is how i create each spiral form, i am now going to repeat this process all the way along the paper ti the whole form has been twisted in this way.
