Workshop 2 - Paper Strips and Circular Forms

In this workshop it was all about cutting strips in a piece of paper and then making forms out of them but folding and curving them into place.

This idea was me trying to create a spherical type shape using only the separate strips of paper, the design was accomplished by pulling all the individual strips into the centre and then taping them all together.

This design was a progression from the first idea, as i didnt like the idea of using tape all over. This model was create by getting a large sheet of paper, A2 sized, them making slits all the way along it in equal measurements, in this case 1cm apart, once i'd made the slits i can could manipulate the shape however i like, so i rolled it up to create the piece to you above. I think its a vast improvement on the first creation i did. Its much neater, the strip are more equal in size and in general the form looks a lot better.

I like the way the strips allow gaps in the model meaning you can see through it. It roughly remind me of a ribcage in that sense.

Taking close up shots of the model results in some interesting outcomes, because your not getting the whole shape, the changing direction of the form becomes very intriguing to view. It looks a lot more like a natural form, much like the landscape picture i looked at before.
